spyder e99 avant, bought it for a friend, and the gun is sweet except for the cocking bolt which requires alot of oil or it will jam quite often |

everything on the gun is awesome! Except for the fact theat the stock barrel is not terribly inaccurate but it does not hit the target with great accuracy after about 45 feet, which for some may be cose enough |

| Review: |
This is a great gun! I have used it at many fields in the lower mainland. I have owned it for more than 5 years roughly and it has only needed to have a trigger replaced once. I have not upgraded my marker at all besides a key barrel upgrade. This is an awesome gun for any player, and I would reccomend it to anyone starting paintball or looking for a very sturdy, relaiable, good looking, fun, marker. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
Buy this marker! |

This is the only gun that I have owned, but I have shot numerous blow back markers such as this one. |

Regulator
Electronic Hopper (good for any gun) |

 |
 |
 |
| Strengths: |
Good r.o.f. for "its kind"
Field strip
Velocity adjuster
Balance

| Weaknesses: |
Vf came loose
This gun is terrible with accuracy after you break a ball
|
 |
| Review: |
Strengths:
Well... for the price you pay ($175) it is a decent gun.
especially for a newer player.
It is a great gun to upgrade.
Not to complex... Easy to clean
A solid blow back marker
Weeknesses:
This gun, however, does have its flaws.
In my case (and this is the only time I have ever heard of this happening)
my vertical feed came loose. I ended up having to weld it onto the gun.
Anouther problem you will run into is the ball detent.
If it gets swollen after not being changed for a long peroid of time, it will make the gun very inaccurate.
If "any" ball breaks accur in the breach (and not in the barrel) you will have to field strip the gun and clean the bolt.
It wouln't hit the kid with his back to you 10 feet away other wise.
Other than that...
No Problems |
 |
| Conclusion: |
This is a decent gun for somone just being introduced to the sport of paintball.
But I would say after 2 years of playing, it is time to look into somthing better.
I am looking into the Bushmaster series. |

 |
| Review: |
Great cheap gun, I purchased it from my brother and love it so far. My friends say it is quite (with new Razor barrel) all they hear is the metal clank of the bolt (I just ordered a Boss bolt so soon they wont hear anything but paint flying through the air). Everything is comfortable and well placed, and the unreadability of the gun is awesome. With a few mods (new barrel) you will have a great all around gun (I mostly play woods but its fast enough to play air ball and be competitive on the amateur level)
Downs: Stock barrel sucks, get a new one as soon as possible but I wont hold this against the gun, most other makers in this price range have horrible barrels, this one is actually better than the stock tippmans.
You need to leave the gun partially disassembled when not in use in order to avoid damaging the dente, inconvenient but not a huge problem
need to be careful of the cocking mechanism flying back and hitting your mask if your face gets to close... You shouldnt have this problem with the flush cocking models.
|
 |
| Conclusion: |
Great gun for its price range you wont compete with the big boys but at this price its a HUGE step up from the rentals. I'm a firm believer that its not the gun but the player who makes a difference, but this gun will defiantly help level the playing field with players who have the more expensive guns. |

I got this marker Dec.2002 used, it was still in excellent condition. Can't say enough about it, it has impressed me greatly! I recomend Piranha's to anyone that asks, for the biggest reason that they are just so reliable. I have begun to set up this marker for low pressure operation, which speaks to the upgradeability of it. You can even get a electronic eye for the 2k2 e-frame which expands the upgradeability even more.
Being a blowback you expect some kick & noise, but by going low pressure(200-350psi) you minimize this. I play with my cousins 2K3 Pro Ext quite often which made me appreciate to advantages of a lower operating pressure, but I'd still take my marker over his. I love the fact that I can upgrade it myself to reach that goal, and see how each upgrade improves the marker. I don't think I'll ever upgrade the trigger frame to elctro though, I did a set srcrew mod to it & it feels awsome. Fires fast enough for me, I like conserving balls anyways just make your shots count. I did however upgrade the grips, fits in your hand alot better now with the PMI stickies. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
To plainly put it this marker kicks butt, I've had so much fun with it! If you decide to upgrad it, it'll just keep getting better. This marker along with the rest of the PMI lineup is perfect for an entry gun as well as tournies. They can grow with you and keep you playin not fixing along the way. |

PMI Phirahna STS-PF- G3 , expansion grip & bottom line- upgraded pmi ram air 16" CMI Rifeld barrell - gas-thru stock and PMI coiled remote 20oz Co2. |

Recommended Upgrades: |
Barrell, expansion if you are getting varying velocity |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Strengths: |
Durable, ok loudness |
 |
| Weaknesses: |
It likes to be oiled every 2 games or so- |
 |
| Review: |
With my set up this gun is accurate and as fast as I can shoot- as long as you keep it oiled- every other use I oil it and it keeps the rings and jazz all nice. 10-16 Balls Per Secont if I try hard to shoot fast- but I dont because of the accuracy all I do is launch off 5 shots and always 3-4 hit the target withing 200ft or so. The CMI barrell adds alot and for almost nothing (25ish $)
The trigger pull is good for me, I used a electronic version and did not like it as much as the mechanical one- but thats something you have to feel, I like to feel when my trigger is going to cock and latch.
Its kinda loud, but no louder than any other gun in its feild. Best gun from its time - and its price range. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
Solid, decent price, fast shooting- and accurate with minor upgrades. |

Up until I bought this marker I used field rentals. In most cases these were out-of-the-box Spyders, Piranhas or Tippmans with a very basic setup. Usually they didn't even have gas thru grips or bottom line setups. |
 |
| Marker Setup: |
Piranha STS VF G3, gas thru grip and bottomline setup, VL Hopper, 14" Teardrop, 68CU 3000PSI compressed air fibre tank. |
 |
Recommended Upgrades: |
New barrel, compressed air (if you can afford it) and drop forward, E-Grip. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Strengths: |
Accurate out-of-the-box, good balance, easy to field strip and clean. |
 |
| Weaknesses: |
Mechanical trigger sometimes stalls, resulting in misfire at critical moments. |
 |
| Review: |
Right out of the box I was very pleased with this marker. The stock barrel holds its own for anyone looking to play recreational. Every game I've played with this marker has been pure fun.
If you're looking for something that will get you to amateur tourny level, this gun will pull it's weight and then some. However, be prepared to invest some time and cash to get it there. First thing any gun-owner will tell you is "get a new barrel". That even applies to this marker. Follow that up with a compressed air system. It's expensive, I know, but your game will improve 100%. The Piranha takes well to the Pure Energy system (of course, PMI makes both, so it goes without saying), and both accuracy and speed will be noticeably enhanced.
After that, it's up to you where you want to take it. In particular I recommend upgrading the trigger frame. Mine has had problems where the gun has re-cocked, but the trigger hasn't "clicked" into place so that I can fire again, resulting in missed opportunities or a compromised game. This has happened often enough that I'm considering an electronic grip as my next (wallet-eating) purchase.
Aside from the playing factor, it's an easy marker to maintain. Very simple to field strip, lube and put back together. In most cases it can be done in between games. The finish is nice and sturdy. Even after a year of playing, mine looks like it came out of the box yesterday. Takes a lickin', keeps on spittin'. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
Definitely a marker that one can have fun with or build on to better themselves and spatter their opponents. My personal problem with the trigger won't effect my rating, as I'm sure it's a 1 in 100 type thing and it just happened to be my luck. You can't go wrong for the price ($329 CDN, bought in 2002), and if you find it used, chances are it's in great condition. |

-Dropforward if that's your thing, I think the Shocktech is perfect if you have a 20 oz tank

 |
| Strengths: |
Works great out of the box, easy to take care of. |
 |
| Weaknesses: |
Trigger failed my first time out, but after that it was fine. |
 |
| Review: |
This is easily the best marker for the amateur who wants a good marker that they can use stock, and later upgrade. When I first got mine the trigger wouldn't move the sear, resulting in my not being able to fire. This was a major annoyance, but I took it back to my pro shop and had them deal with it, and after that it's been fine. I might've just gotten a bad frame. The marker performs great stock, and is incredibly upgradable thanks to the fact that most Spyder upgrades are compatible. An electro hopper is a must, as I chopped frequently before I got mine. The marker field strips with incredible easy, and even first time owners should have no problem maintaining it. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
If you're looking for a good starter marker that you won't want to get rid of a month later (*cough BE cough*), this is definitely it. Rated a 9 because nothing is perfect. |

| Strengths: |
I think this is a all around good marker for how much I paid for it. It shoots pretty well and is semi accurate. Not to hard to clean with the easy pull pin. I like the flush cocking system (no getting hit in the face). Comes stock with gas thru grip, ram air chamber. |
 |
| Weaknesses: |
Could definately use a Freak Kit. I upgraded to my 2k2 cocker because the STS G3 isnt very accurate. I found that I wasnt really hitting anything but the gun just isnt for tournament play (even though the box will tell you different). I have had some problems with this gun as far as leaks here and there (had nothing to do with o-rings). |
 |
| Review: |
Not a bad gun for the money you pay for it. Good starter gun for any newbie. I liked this gun when I didnt know anything about cockers and high end markers. If your in the game just to have fun than get this gun. If your looking to go pro and need the accuracy so you can win some tourneys then go for a cocker or impy. |
 |
| Conclusion: |
I gave this gun a 8 because I feel that this is a good starter gun and is not to expensive to get you started in the sport. I would recommend that you go for a higher end marker if you play paintball more often or if you are a serious player and want a gun with some accuracy. This is a good gun to buy but go for a better and little more expensive gun. |
