Experience:

Products Used:
Original Spyder - Plus Upgrades: You can get a Spyder to perform as well, but it will cost you.
Inferno - Plus Upgrades: Better compared to a Brass Eagle product.
Model 98 - Plus Upgrades: Most reliable competition, but you'll spend your share of dough on bringing this gun to its peak performance level (plus it's loud as hell).
Marker Setup: PMI Piranha EXT PRO G3
PMI Pure Energy 20 ounce CO2 tank, Smartparts ON/OFF valve, anti-siphon tube
View Loader Revolution 12volt, X-Board, Black
Lapco 12 inch BigShot (aluminum) and 12 inch AutoSpirit (Stainless Steel)
Recommended
Upgrades:
As with almost every other gun on the market you will need a new barrel. The clear plastic barrel won't cut it for most people, but it is decent for stock. If you decide to change the barrel, do yourself one favor....buy a Lapco. No one you know may have one and you might think, for $50.00 dollars, will this barrel perfom? The answer is yes and then some. When I first got my Spyder it was the best Kingman marker made but I soon found myself hating the accuracy. I bought 5 barrels in search of something that worked...I stopped buying them after getting a Lapco Bigsho from my local proshop. SmartParts and Dye were the closest to the Lacpo, but none surpassed it. Get one, and for $50.00 if you dont like it, sell it on Ebay...because they sell like stolen viagra (because they both really work). My Piranha shoots very close to, if not equal to high-end guns at short-middle ranges. Long range is not as effective as a shocker for instance, but will make it there. Whatever you do, research from reliable sources before you buy. I suggest Ravi Copra's site and here.
You will need a View Loader Revolution with this gun, I'd get a 12v because it won't hurt to spend a little more and if you get a electronic frame or gun you won't need another hopper. Without one you will chop paintballs, its not the paintball quality like some say, or the bolt but it is the feed speed. Barrel breaks are paintball shell thickness or CO2 problems (liquid and velocity).
If you are worried about trigger speed, just go to pbnation.com's Piranha forum and get instructions on a trigger frame mod (they work), or spend $120.00 on a new frame (might as well buy that electric gun).
Other than that don't touch anything, the internals are already at their best.
Strengths: PMI's Pure Energy Regulator performs well under extreme conditions, I've had consistent velocity on CO2 at sub-freezing temperatures. You do, however, need to run anti-siphon to achieve best results with CO2. The gauge is helpful for low pressure applications.
Flush cocking sure beats the hell out of conventional rear cocking. It is similar to that of M16 A1 and A2 models. Pull to cock and when you release, it retracts into the body and stays there.
It comes with the best internals PMI makes, high flow Turbo valve, Venturi Bolt,
and Ram Air [not just any plain ole Low Pressure Chamber (King of LPC's) uses special technology and makes for great cold weather use]
Drop Forward, nice for those "Bertha" size bottles,
45 Frame with double finger trigger, sure it's composite but no one i know has ever broke their composite frames, plus if Glock and Heckler&Koch make pistols and Submachine guns with composite material it must be strong. You can fix the extra pull length with any of several home made trigger jobs
Vertical Feed, nice to have your hopper inline with you gun, plus it sits the loader lower than anything that uses an elbow.
Colors, there are three colors to chose from, which is enough choice for most people.
Can use Spyder barrels, which means you don't have to throw out your spyder barrels if you decide to upgrade.
Good company with years and years of paintball experience.
Weaknesses: We all know the barrel is every stock gun's weak spot. Nothing different for the Piranha.
Conclusion: If you want a mid range gun that can perform with guns in the lower high-end bracket get this one. All I can stress is to try the Lacpo, find the balls that work best in it and you'll be fine. Research before you buy and don't always listen to your friends (they're not always right). You'll be more satisfied if you pick the gun you like rather than what is the status quo of your area.

I bought mine without a drop forward so a Drop Forward if you dont have one.
Agitated Hopper.
Valve.
In-line Regulator.
Strengths: Light.
Durable.
Customizable.
Easy to clean.
PMI Gauge.
Weaknesses: Stock Barrel.
Had no drop forward on mine.
Feed neck is built-in.
Review: Worked flawless when I got it though the stock barrel was a real let down.

2nd time, bought my self a J&J ceramic 14" barrel but it wasn't shooting right.

Turns out, I didn't clean the bolt from the first game because I was scared to disassemble and ruin it. It was my first time to have a brand new gun.

Feed neck is built-in to the body which it sucks because my Empire Reloader II wouldn't fit and I cannot replace the feed neck with a custom one. But I managed to squeeze it in.

People from High Velocity 2 helped teach me to clean and oil the bolt. You have to clean the bolts every after game you used this gun.

It was alot easier than I thought to remove the bolt. I was scared that I would scratch and ruin it but with the proper oil and care, shoots brand new.
Conclusion: Usually, before I got this gun, I was renting, then borrowing my friend's Spyder Xtra, I count how many people I've shot. With this gun, I lost count.

Remember, this gun is crap compared to those DM4 DM5 or other $1000+ guns, yet I was able to take them out with just the right barrel and skills ofcoarse.

I have those cheap hoppers for $4, and when you shoot at a rapid rate with this kind of hopper, you gonna chop balls inside the hopper which I did and all your paint inside are all wet and you are screwed.

My lesson, get a Revolution or Halo hooper to keep up with my fingers.

Overall, great gun for beginners and mediocre players whole plays just every month(like me).

If you play every weekend and play on tournaments, this gun might not be enough.

Strengths: very good. I decided to have fun so i got a piranha ext pro g3 or somethin like that, and i will upgrade it to elcd later and just make it a project gun. Shoots awesome out of the box. no, not good. awesome. well i was shooting all stars and with the stock barrel i was hitting a tree about a 1' in diameter from about 250 feet away and i got it 1/3 times. thats pretty dang good. oh by the way i was on higher ground about 15 feet off the ground. I couldn't get the velocity check because i dont have the $$ for my own chrono. well this thing comes with a regulator that is very consistent, seems to have no dropoff whatsoever at 5 bps, with Co2 . I outshot my 9 volt with this thing when i tried, oh yeah, but i have a fast trigger finger. flush bolt cocking thing is weird. You cock the gun at first and it goes back in. Then when you shoot it comes out about a centimeter, but you still dont need a beavertail, because the velocity adjuster below it sticks out a very little bit, just enough so that your mask doesnt get close enough. Youd have to be a total idiot to get your mask smacked. Prism barrel is very accurate, like i said i hit the tree 1/3 times...but when i put on my all american i hit it about 2/5 times. so i dont really see the reason for getting a new barrel...unless you are constantly changing paintball brands, in that case you can get a freak. all stars seemed to be a perfect match in the stock barrel, so that means that the stock barrel has a pretty small bore diameter. The prism barrel is clear, so you can see the paintballs fired. pretty cool lookin. out of the box i gassed it up and the gauge read 600 psi. not bad but ill have to get it lower :). the gun has a slight recoil when fired. drop forward is nice and balanced. 16 ounce Co2 was almost perfectly balanced, but 68ci carbon fiber pure energy was perfectly balanced. This gun is nice and compact. good for snap shooting. Vertical feed is nice, and the slight milling is cool too. The gun looks awesome with all the chrome. This gun is the top-o-the-line piranha. Very nice, especially for the price. Beats the crap out of spiders. Slices spiders up with a big butcher knife. Customer service is great. (Well thats what i hear, although i never think ill need to use it.)
Weaknesses: The only thing bad i can think of right now is, it eats lots of tank o-rings. Not a problem, but just a slight slight slight inconvenience. I dont really care, but i just had to mention it. That and i didnt get to play with it today. ( i bought it after i played)
Conclusion: i dont think this gun deserves 10-best ever, but im giving it a ten, because in my book a 10 is 10-VERY VERY GOOD FOR THE MONEY. I highly recomend this. and it runs GREAT on Co2. No nitro needed here. Works perfect stock. The only reason im upgrading it is because im tired of watching all the angels firing 10+ bps inaccurately. Im going to get ELCD, Freak, and LP internals, and maybe a better nitro tank so i can shoot 10+ bps accurately. If you dont play with guys who all have angels and fat wallets, then you'll never need to upgrade this gun, not even to nitro. I RECCOMEND HEAVILY OVER ALL OTHERS OF THE PRICE, EVEN 100 dollars more, yes even a stock cocker, and yes i do have a cocker, so dont be flamin this like your somethin special. trust me i know what im talkin about im not just sayin stuff. So buy this gun. im tired. The only reason i type long reviews is because i can type very fast. So get it. Get it, just get it!!!

Ehh... don't do all the stuff that I did, if you're going to upgrade heavily, just buy a higher-end gun. I would definately suggest a BARREL, and an agitated hopper of some sort! Perhaps a bigger drop-forward?
Strengths: -Feels great
-Great price-
-Comes stock w/ drop, reg, all that stuff
-Shorter trigger pull than stock spyders
-Cool milling
-Flush cocking
-Comes w/ turbo valve
-ASA is ported for a guage
-Vert feed is drilled to dispell blowback
-Thumb velo adjuster
Weaknesses: -For the price....? not much
-Didn't come w/ high-flow valve pin
-Crappy, ultra crappy barrel. However, I argued that since I was going to immediately going to replace the barrel, I didn't wanna spend money on a barrel I wouldn't use.. so that's cool
Conclusion: If you're looking at something that will get the job done and is fully upgradeable, check this out! It is backed by PMI's un-poke-a-hole-in-able warranty, and whenever even the tiniest thing has gone wrong w/ this gun they sent a replacement part to me for FREE. no questions asked.

Upgrades:
New barrel *Definately* I went with the Empire Twister, A larger drop-forward, and a new bolt.
Strengths: -accurate
-lightweight
-QUIET
Weaknesses: -To bright
-stock barrel
-Leaked when it came
Review: When the gun came, it leaked horribly, and it was shinier then i had originally predicted, it was also moderately loud. I have fixed all that up now, so I love my gun, I camoed the gun completely, putting insulation over the holes that are under the sight rail, and over the bolt. To fix the leaking, all it took was a little Teflon tape. Once that is done, I custom side mounted a sight rail, and a scope. It has double fed a few times, and doesnt perform as well as should in the cold, but overall is still nice.
Conclusion: its a nice gun for the moderate player, a nice buy in my opinion, as long as you got the $$ for a new barrel.

Strengths: Looks, accuracy, reg, cheap price.
Weaknesses: Vertical feed snapped off!!!!!
Bolt wares away body.
Review: My brother bought this gun, good deal 200$ CAN. Barrel aint that bad, it almost matches my Progressive. He bought this gun about 3-4 months ago, little did he know that his egg hopper would soon fall victim to a number of criticisms. The weld was crappy! The guns reg messed up and wouldn't let air through for a long time just before a big game. It chops like a maddd man! We put 300 through it, mine didnt chop any of the 500, my bro's EXT Pro chopped at least 12. Now this isn't too many at all, but when your in a game, about to bunker someone and the feel a mist of the back of their neck, you are screwed! It is quite reliable except for the ball chopping, but when it chopps a ball, it worls perfectly fine.
Conclusion: It's a good gun, cheap price, but it chops, and the vertical feed broke. PMI is sending us a new body for it, but its a pain.

Upgrades:
As for any gun, I would recommend a new barrel and maybe a new bolt, I prefer the evil venturi.
Strengths: The Price
Good accuracy for the price
Reliable gun even for the price
Weaknesses: Not much I can see here
Review: I would without a doubt in my mind, recommend this gun to anyone that is looking for a good gun for under $200. I know I am glad that I have gotten this gun and Im sure you would be to. Who cares about full auto, I have eliminated some competition with this great gun. This gun is pretty accurate and consistant for the price and I haven't chopped that many balls yet. I went through a case and it only chopped 1 ball. Pretty good if you ask me. The customer service is really nice to you to, so that's always a good thing. Once I get another gun, I doubt I would ever sell this gun.
Conclusion: GET THIS GUN! I'm not kidding, I love this gun and went to lot's of games with it and it has never let me down or made me mad.Anyone woth $200, get this gun. I can't say it enough. Good customer service, good price, prety accurate, good parts. You won't be let down and neither am I.

Barrel, most definitely.
Strengths: + Fast
+ Attractive
+ Upgradable
+ Best of PMI's internals
+ Feels good
Weaknesses: - Stock barrel is junk
- Chops low quality balls
Review: I'm having a great time with this marker. From my playing experience, I've noticed that it works great in cold weather, however, I had a problem with the balls I was using. I had three ball breaks. These balls were purchased at Wal-Mart and I think that may be part of the problem.
The stock barrel is a novel idea, being clear and what not, but it falls short. It's plastic and can't perform well.
Still, I was impressed with it when it came down to the heat of the battle. Fast firing and durable, I had a great time with this marker, and will continue to.
Conclusion: Well, the positives really cancel out the negatives. My only advice is too upgrade to a better barrel. Can't go wrong with a Boomstick. And don't be cheap, buy nice balls.

-Spyder TL + (good gun as well, but i've used better)
-Prolite (1st gun I used, rental, can't remember much bout it... except being durable)
-Impulse standard, with regulator chamber (accurate and fast, but heavy, and alittle on the expensive side)
-Impulse worth around $1200 (won't chop a ball ever with vision eye, extremly fast firing, acurrate but heavy and very expensive)
-98 custom(kinda complicated with the tons of little parts, really durable though.)
model 98 (step up from 98 custom, pretty good gun)
Marker Setup: Piranha EXT Pro G3
12v View Loader hopper
5000psi 68cu Pure Energy Hopper
Freak Jr 14inch Barrel
Recommended
Upgrades:
-Definatly Upgrade the barrel. The standard was good and quite acurate. I loved the clear style. but mine tended to cut alot of paintballs.
-spring if necessary (just a few dollars)
Strengths: All around great gun
Weaknesses: barrel
Review: Works really well. This is definatly a great gun. Its the best gun that doesnt need too much upkeap, out there in my opinion.

I've competed against Impulses, autocockers, and angels, and intimitators with this gun, and did very well against them. This gun gives me confidence, whereever I go.

Good:
-Very light weight
-No bad parts
-Trigger is pretty good, you can shoot pretty fast
-Barely cut any paintballs once i got a new barrel
-Easy to clean, and very easy to take apart and put together
-it can take both co2 and nitro
-Flushcocking bolt, which is really awesome

Bad:
-The standard barrel cut alot of paintballs for me. when it didn't it was quite accurate, but when it did, whew, when it did....
-the screws for my back drop come loose a good bit, but no biggy.
-i turned my gun upside down once to tighten the screws for the back drop and my friggen elbow completly fell off! ofcourse, I was pissed. My waranty completly fixed it for free though. Which was cool. Its never happend since.
-the standard spring for me could only get up to a wopping 240fps... lol, and that my friend is pitiful. but, all i had to do was by some new springs which fixed it a good bit.
Conclusion: Its great, and if you're looking for a gun, I definatly reccomend you buying this one. just buy a new barrel and you're all set! For its price, (especially since its down to $160 now, which pisses me off considering i payed $250 for it!) its an excellent deal.
