Upgrades:
Nothing or Everything
It's decent the way it is. I have very little experiance playing in tournaments or arenas, mostly just backyard games with my friends. It holds it's own and performs spectacualrly, however, you can upgrade just about EVERYTHING on it. I plan to get HPA, Regulator, Barrel, E-frame, and an Electric Hopper
Strengths: Almost NEVER chops balls
- I have chopped one ball in over 1700 shots
Accurate Stock
- Stock Barrel is Accurate (no superb, but up there)
Malfunctions? What Malfuctions?
- No leaks
- No chopped balls
- Only one jam ever

Light Weight
- With VL Hopper and 12Oz CO2 tank, this gun weighs NOTHING
- Forgrip balances the gun well, but light enough to fire one - handed
Weaknesses: COLOR
- Purple sucks, you are a big shiny beachon on the paintball field

RANGE
- Somewhat short range, CO2 fluctuations on a partially empty tank causes some eratic ball flights. Upgrade to HPA and a barrel should fix that

NOT FANCY
- This gun comes to you bare bones. I'm gonna need to put a ton of money into upgrading this into a killing machine. The gun cost me $70, but I'll probably have to spend close to $300 in upgrades, maybe more to get it full auto and mad accurate
Review: All in all this is an excellent beginner-level gun. I have used it for close to 6 months, and it out-performs many high level markers. Though it is bare-bones, and the coloring is poor, it whethers the elements and is deadly accurate, even with the stock barrel. I hate to think what a barrel upgrade would to to this thing, but I mean to find out!
Conclusion: All in all this is a GREAT beginner gun. It's performace outclasses my friends with their expensive spyder TL Plus's (though they outrange me). If you're looking for cheap thrills, this is your gun.

Upgrades:
A barrel the stock isnt bad but go on ebay and buy the 3A barrel it works good and you can bet on it for cheap. Also get an expansion chamber otherwise you have alot of wasted C02.
Strengths: Accurate, cheap, light, preforms well, doesnt chop balls
Weaknesses: Its purple, cant use the sight,
Review: This gun is awesome for the amount of money and very reliable you can go on the field knowing you can rely on it to preform. If you are a begginer this is an excellent gun because as you get more experience it is so easy to upgrade into an even better gun.
Conclusion: It is an awesome value and is reliable. its an awesome buy for the money

Kingman Spyder Sonix - stock, but w/ modified sights

Upgrades:
Possibly a better barrel, but the stock one is really quite adequate.
Modify the sights. The ones there are redundant, so take them off at the very least
Strengths: -Reliable
-Durable
-Customizable, but excellent out of box.
-Accurate, for a gun of its type
Weaknesses: -Chops with some regularity with cheap field paint
-maxes out at about 300fps
Review: My first gun, and one of my favorites I've ever used. It's more than any entry level buyer could ask for, being a leagues better performer than many of its competitors. I purchased mine as part of a gun, mask, etc package, which I recall having cost me about $160, but I may be as much as twenty dollars off. It's never given me trouble, and quite plainly has a very solid feel, much more so than the more recent low-end spyders seem to have. The only problems I've ever had were with moderate chopping, but that was with cheap field paint. Nonetheless, I recommend bringing a squegee if you're using field paint with a plan to use it as much as once per round (that being about every 2-300 balls fired).
Conclusion: An excellent beginner gun if one can be found on ebay or anywhere else one might look for used markers (I think they actually still sell these on Amazon, or at least did a few weeks past). In my opinion, superior to equivalent spyders of the newer generation.

Sufficiently upgraded (customization being something the gun's design facilitates), it could match up with $250-500 guns.

stock everything
12oz Co2
(i have no money)
Recommended
Upgrades:
Definitely a barrel, although i don't ahve enough $ to buy one. A spring kit would be a good idea too. paint it or cover it with camo or black
Strengths: Doesn't Chop balls 95%% of the time (after you change the spring)
it's accurate enough if you don't have the money to spend on a higher end marker or don't have enough money to buy a new barrel....good on Co2 even without a regulator
Weaknesses: umm...stock barrel is only accurate to about 50 yards, whic is plenty for small fields but where i play to get any hit i have to be on the front line. the spring that was in it out of the box was too strong, it did nothing but break balls and i couldn't get the velocity below 315 fps. so you'll have to replace the spring if you have this problem. it's purple or blue, and very noticable on the field, mines purple and i get picked out from the beginning, i recommend coving it with some camo material or painting black or camo yourself.
Conclusion: good gun all around, looks like it has a lot of potential for upgrades, and it won't break the bank

Strengths: Strengths not a gas hog like most entry level guns

Weaknesses: This has been known to break balls if shot reallly fast.
Review: I have had this gun for about 6 months and it has never once broken down on me. The only thing is the cocker bolt on the side can unscrew during the game so make sure you use lock tight or tighten it before every game. all in all the gun is a great value and it hasnt had any problems to speak of. Not reccomended for any kind of fast shooting games but definatly a great gun for woods ball.
Conclusion: I reccommend this gun over most of the older spyders because it is reliable and comes ready to use right out of the box.

Upgrades:
This is your typical blow back marker stock. Definently overpriced....$130.00 in non ebay areas typical. A new barrel, regulator / gas through grip, that kinda stuff!
Strengths: better than expected stock. I didnt upgrade mine at all for about 3 months
Weaknesses: price is way too high!
Review: This is another gun with a lot of potential. I am a firm beliver in Kingman's products. Some of the best markers, and certainly the most durable. I use this as a backup Speedball gun as it is not near as fast as my Dragun LCD, but fast enough to keep up... I have a sprint frame on mine!
Conclusion: Good gun, bad price......a lot of potential for this with the right upgrades.

Upgrades:
I've just used what I have, and I'd recommend all of them highly.
Strengths: It's cheap, reliable, customizable, has an anged-feed tube and asight rail.
Weaknesses: Ergonomics could be better, and it's too shiney.
Review: reliability:
I've used this gun for a looooong time now, and feel I can give this a fair and thorough review. Though it's showing its age, I'd trust a used one if I was in the market again, provided the previous owner wasn't an idiot. The only problem I've had is that it used to leak some gas. It was only audible, never adversely affected performance, and then the leaking stopped. I usually shoot slowly (though more accurately) than most of my competition, but I've never had a break in the barrel, unless I fell during play, or otherwise knocked the marker around.

accuracy:
It's not the most accurate weapon, but I use field paint, so it doesn't matter much anyway. And I still get plenty of kills. If you get a NyteStikk, it's very quiet provided you're in front of it (where most targets tend to be). I've had several people come up to me after a round to see what I was shooting, because they didn't hear the paint coming towards them. I have found that, especially in its golden years, the paint has inconsistent velocity coming out of the barrel.

ergonomics:
Ergonomics could use improvement. I don't like the stock trigger group, but don't dislike it enough to replace it. I despise double triggers, but the grip is big enough to put my middle, ring and pinky fingers below the trigger guard comfortably, and just shoot with my index finger. I like the feel of a custom 98 much better, they're more ergonomic and handy.

other:
The biggest advantage this marker has over most newer ones (the other being sturdiness) is the angled feed combined with the sight rail. Most new markers are top-feeders now, which is appealing if you're seeking to fulfill your rambo fantasies, but doesn't allow for a sight rail (though some markers have sight rails AND top-feeding tubes, in case the owner has the ability to see through metal and plastic). The good ol' Sonix lets you mount a cheap-o Wal-Mart red dot sight, which will put you several cuts above the spray-and-pray competition. They're $8, and they let you just point and shoot accurately. Unless you practice 10 hours a week or have supernatural marksmanship, top-feeders force you to guess where your ball is going. I prefer aiming.
Conclusion: If you want an inexpensive, reliable, second-hand marker that you can cheaply fix or upgrade, a Sonix would be a smart choice. Just add a sight (and use your brain), and you'll already well ahead of most competition.

well, i would recommend any i have on mine (look above), but you really only need a barrel or a drop forward (depending on your opinion on how it feels)
Strengths: reliable
accurate
Weaknesses: quick-strip pin...I've lost 2
unbalanced sometimes-fixed with a drop forward
Review: I like my sonix. Its accurate and mine never chops paint. I got a pretty good grouping at 40 yards. This was with my SSR. A new barrel is really the only upgrade u need to be content with this gun. Its fairly reliable, the only problems i've had are with me puttin the Check It 15 degree assault block in, it was leaking air around the edges. But this was fixed with some o-ring lube. Even though you dont need it an assault block is nice to have on this gun, i hate VA's.
Conclusion: I'd recommend this gun to anyone joining the sport or any rec-ball player. Even though it has been discontinued you can still find them on ebay and some shops. You can get one in a package on ebay for less than $110.
