The Flatline Barrel System is the first barrel to put back spin on paintballs. It not only increases accuracy and distance, but it also has a flat trajectory.
Product Availability
The Tippmann Custom 98 Flatline Barrel is newer, so it should be commonly available, both new and used.

im not quite sure. maybe the flatline autococker flatline but ive never shot that.
Marker Setup:
i have a silver 98custom with a flatline and im soon going to have an expansion chamber.
Recommended Paintballs:
i reccomend to use marbalizers with this barrel because ther'ye a little smaller than the most paintballs so the have the advantage to get around the curve in the barrel easily. I use marbalizers and i only hav like 1 every 500 shots explode.
Strengths:
the good thing about this product is it goes extremely far. it goes far because the curve in the barrel makes it have backspin and the backspin just makes the ball sore in the air.
Weaknesses:
the only bad thing about this gun is its accuracy and it kind of always rises like 5 feet so you have to aim down a little bit.
Conclusion:
i think this product is pretty good. if i were you though, if you like assaulting i would get a different barrel but if you like sniping from great distance i would probly get this gun and adjust the volocity all you can.
tippman 98 stock barrel- sucked, although my friend's tippman stock is amazingly accurate, don't see how it is though
Marker Setup:
-Tippman 98 custom
-Flatline barrel
-12 oz. CO2
-Adco sure shot red dot
-future upgrades are a Model 98 Blackpoint engineering folding stock and a coiled steel remote sys
Recommended Paintballs:
Marballizer, in the past year, PMI has changed the marbs a bit, i call them brushcutter paint because the shell feels almost like plastic, but still is bio-degradable. Hurts a lot, cuts through soft cover well and is hard to break in the flatline
Strengths:
-simply amazing accuracy and range, totally flat trajectory. If you can see the guy, you can hit him/her, assuming you're that great of a shot. Perfect for a sniper-like player. Everyone says that the flatline shoots paint slower, that is not true, because of the uniform backspin the barrel gives the paint, the paintball is propelled faster (think rifleing in firearms) but also makes the ball easier to see with the eye, giving the paint a slow floating illusion.
-added fore-stock for the gun, so you can either hold the original tippy grip, or the shroud like a rifle
-a little easier to squeege than screw in barrels, just pop the elbow and feed the squeege in the side of the gun, cable first, so you don't have to loosen the adapter, yank out the barrel, and then clean it.
-the cool looking/intimidation factor, depends if the opposition loves or hates the barrel, see conclusion
-if you tilt the gun 90 defrees, you can (hypothetically) nail people around trees, corners etc.. personally, i've never done it, but a good option when pinned down
Weaknesses:
-it's a finicky barrel, fire too fast, it breaks paint, velocity too high, it breaks paint, use crappy paint, it will break, put it together wrong, and guess what. If you're having problems, check tippmann.com out and go to support for the flatline, i got my barrel fixed after some trouble with it, and now it's fine. Make sure the adapter is in at the 6 o'clock position! I keep my Rate of Fire real low since i like sniper play, i almost never double tap, you could get away with a triple tap, but on a 20 round burst i broke a lot
-once you break a ball, accuracy sucks, good for about 20-50 feet, keep the barrel spottless and your accuracy will be fine
-it's kinda long, not good to use in speedball (fields suck, go find public land and ask the caretaker for permission to paintball there), as if you need the range and accuracy in speedball anyways
-if you add a red dot, a 200 rd hopper gets in the line of sight a little, but is still usable, but with a flatline, use a 45 instead, you won't go through that much paint or you will break paint
-kinda pricy, even for a mid range player, get if $115 or less
-no need for elec. trigger or response trigger, can't fire that fast w/o breaking, maybe don't need a expansion chamber either, but it's your preference
Conclusion:
people either love the barrel or hate it, there is no inbetween. Use if a sniper or back player, not for pointmen. personally, i love this barrel, i could not think of using anything else. If you like sneaking through the woods carefully, and planting a paintball right on someone's chest, go for it. Those with less patience or skilled in closer quarters play, look elsewhere, the slower rate of fire will get yourself wasted up close
I have never gotten to the same distance as with this barrel. The balls go way out there, and you can even arc them around trees and stuff. This is a barrel for woods definitely not speedball.
Weaknesses:
I have played, even with my velocity turned way up, and balls would just bounce off people. I literally hit a kid 7 times in one game and only 1 broke. Also to hit a target outside 50 feet is very unlikely. I am not some idiot who can't put a barrel on. I know how it works and how to put it on. I don't understand how so many people can call it accurate.
Conclusion:
Don't get it, i got one and got rid of it very quickly. It has awesome distance, but it is too much of a big deal to take it off and stuff. Don't waste your time or money.
Old PMI Piranha w/ exp. chamber drop fowrard, and macroline. Just got the tippy
Recommended Paintballs:
8ball, or JT's Hard and hurt like hell and break consistantly
Strengths:
The Best part about this barrel is that I have gotten it to shoot over 300ft ACCURATLY. Also it makes your gunlook bad as hell and it is only plastic to reduce the weight of the gun NOT because tippmann makes cheap products. ALSO it is easy to assemble if you know what your doing.
Weaknesses:
The only bad part about the barrel is that if you are shooting at someone farther then 150ft away your balls ( because of the backspin) will decline in velocity and start to float. but they are still acurate. Also it does use alot of Co2 and breaks balls. But if you have some kind of Exp. chamber or remote it wont matter. Plus if you buy harder balls you wont break as much paint.
Conclusion:
Great Barrel. Ive been using it and have played against it and it hurts like hell to be hit by it. Buy this barrel if you want to win.
I have a Tippmann model 98 with a remote, collapsoble stock with and of course the Flatline
Recommended Paintballs:
The best paint for this gun in my opinion is Nitro Ducks or Diablo
Strengths:
The farthest shooting barrel. I think its awesome. It is amazingly accurate. The Flatline looks as good as the performance of it, wich is awesome .There was only about 3 ball busts and that was with bad Brass eagle paint today. Every other time there was never a bust. Its not that loud. I think its worth the money for it.
Weaknesses:
Its really annoying feild striping it and cleaning it. Its expensive but worth it. Its very long so its hard to fit in the bag. Besides that the barrel is AMAZING.
Conclusion:
The barrel is awesome. Just never buy Brass eagle paint or you will have a difficult time cleaning it all day. Its very accurate.Awesome looking. A little spendy but worth it like I said...
This barrel made my jaw drop! The distance is amazing! It just kept on going! The accuracy is very good and I have never seen a barrel perform so well. It is also very light.VERY AWESOME!!!
Weaknesses:
The bad thing about this barrel would be:
*it is a pain to assemble
*it makes it harder to clean your gun and oil it (disassemble it)
*the plastic shroud does not look very stable,I would recommend getting the metal shroud from tippmann.com
*It is hard to get the barrel in the right spot som your balls wont curve.
Conclusion:
This is a very good barrel! I think that the installation is much worth it! The distance is amazing,I still can't get over how far this shot!! It is much more accurate than I had thought it would be! I was hesitant about buying it because I'd hurt so much trash about it. But it is awesome!! Great upgrade for any owner of a Model 98!
large bore paint. proball if used with response trigger
Strengths:
-lllooooonnnngggg shot distance
-looks cool with out the cheesy plastic cover
-accurate
Weaknesses:
-to pricey at 100 bucks
-when player can see you, they can dodge the balls
-isn't just a screw in and go barrel. you have to adjust it
-can't use with response or e-bolt
Conclusion:
if you want the distance and have the money to spend, get the barrel. do not buy this as your primary barrel. it is only good for long range sniper action. you can't use it with the response because it breaks balls. and when you don't break balls the accuracy drops a lot. doesn't work well on low co2.
this barrel is over-rated. get it for the distance it gives, but be warned that the paint will either bounce off or the person will dodge it.
Armson stealth, 14" Thunder Pig thing,Freak Parts set
Marker Setup:
Tippmann custom 98, coiled remote, Flatline, Response trigger and a generic Reg, a $15 scope
Recommended Paintballs:
Not valvet shelled paint balls
Strengths:
- Long range (200 feet!)
- Good sight mounts
- nice feel to the gun
- gives the gun better balance
Weaknesses:
- hard as hell to put on
- Takes forever to clean
- breaks velevet shelled paint balls
- balls start floating at long range
- expensive, like $100 dollers (which is like $200 canadian)
- hard to find in Canada
- Looks ugly as hell
Conclusion:
I don't really know how to put the barrel on cuz I usually use my armson stealth cuz it works better in my gun. if u know how to put the barrel on properly plz e-mail me and tell me how to do it.
A decent close-range barrel and a good long range barrel but is to hard to put on and to dificult to clean to be counted as the optimum choice as far as barrels are concerned.
Get an Armson Stealth if u want a good reliable barrel that has a long range.
I have a tippmann model 98 custom/silver with a flatline and expansion chamber
Recommended Paintballs:
big ball, diablo
Strengths:
This gun is amazing and the accuracy is the best to boot. I can shoot the gun fairly fast because of the easy trigger. The Flatline barrel system is the best I have ever shot, it goes 70-80 yards easy and the ball hurts you even at that range. the ball may float but the paintballs are hard to see floating through the air in the middle of the woods anyways.
Weaknesses:
If you dont hold it at 90 degrees the barrel curves.
Conclusion:
Overall the gun is great and the barrel is number 1 in long range and close combat. I dont sniper but the barrel still comes in use when playing in an area where there is nothing but distance. the curve of the barrel also comes in handy you can curve around bunkers and trees to hit your opponent. I bought my gun new and my flatline off ebay for 85 I recommend this barrel if you want to upgrade a stock gun.
Range when it comes down to it, it can lob a ball pretty far. And that is definatly a plus. It is fairly accurate at that long range. it has a unique design, and an interesting look.
Weaknesses:
I've noticed that at long distance, the balls float. You can catch balls with out a problem in your hand (when playing at standard 280 fps). The kit restricts some other upgrades that you may want on you m98. Also you rate of fire is greatly reduced (or you break balls in the barrel really bad), So no reactive or electronic trigger for a flat line system.
Conclusion:
Over all this barrel is kinda an upset. I've had it and tryed it, but i'm just not impressed. the only thing it's good at is distance, but by the time the ball gets that far it's traveling to slow to break consistantly. If i were considering purchising this barrel i would ask around and try to find someone and play with them (or at least let them shoot at you), then you'll see it's performance and you can be the judge. But I do not recomend buying this barrel, there are far better barrels on the maket at far less an expence.
